Henderson County is located in the northwest sector of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, was established in 1798 and contains approximately 300,000 acres. Henderson County is bounded by Daviess County to the east, McLean County to the southeast, Webster County to the south, Union County to the southwest and by the Ohio River and Vanderburgh County, Indiana to the north and northwest. Within the borders of Henderson County is the junction of the Ohio and Green Rivers - both navigable waterways. The 2006 estimated population is 45,666.

HENDERSON CITY-COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION
The Henderson City-County Planning Commission is a local government development agency that oversees all public and private development within the city and county boundaries of Henderson, Ky. The rules regulating development processes are found in the city and county zoning ordinances, the subdivision regulations and the public improvement specifications. The Henderson City-County Planning is responsible for the preparation of the Comprehensive Plan for Henderson and Henderson County and the City of Corydon; the Zoning Ordinance for Henderson and Henderson County and the City of Corydon; the Subdivision Regulations, Public Improvement Specifications and Access Standards Regulations. There are twelve citizen members serving on the HCCPC. The County of Henderson appoints 5 members, the City of Henderson appoints 6 members, and the City of Corydon appoints 1 member.

HEALTH CARE - METHODIST HOSPITAL
Methodist Hospital provides general medical and surgical care for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room patients, and participates in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. The residents of Henderson County are served by one public school district. The Henderson County School District has eight elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school and one alternative center which serves students who are not performing well in a traditional school setting. The Henderson County Board of Education employs approximately 1050 staff members and is one of the largest employers in Henderson County.
